People are going Insane Over Dairy Queen cake artist in Eagle Butte

Leah Redbird creates intricate Lakota designs on the cakes, with each one taking hours to decorate.

A cake artist for the last 15 years at Dairy Queen, she decided to branch out three years ago into original designs.

And that is when the pictures went viral, with hundreds of likes, comments and shares.

"I like making star quilts and I was just thinking about it and seeing if I could put one on there, so I had all my little sticks and made my design and it worked out," said Leah.

And this year, she went viral again. But this time, the post on the Eagle Butte Dairy Queen's Facebook had more than 3,000 shares.

"It makes me feel proud that I can do something with my culture," she said.

She decorated free-handed in the beginning, but according to her, it was a lot of trial and error.

"I didn't even like the first one, I didn't even share it."

But now she prints off a design and fills each diamond, one by one.

"Just takes patience," she says. "I like decorating these cakes, so it makes me feel proud and happy."
